STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND PURPOSES

The objects and purposes for which the Couta Boat Association is established are:

a)      to encourage and provide guidance and advice on the building, restoration and preservation of Queenscliff-type couta boats, and to encourage the development of couta boat fleets, particularly in new areas;

b)      to maintain, preserve and protect the couta boat heritage;

c)      to organise, promote and encourage the preservation, collection and displaying of material of historical interest relating to traditional Queenscliff-type couta boats and other traditional wooden boats;

d)      to control and maintain the brand names, trademarks, registration, qualifications and restrictions required to protect the integrity of traditional Queenscliff-type couta boats, including setting standards and regulations for the design and building of couta boats, and maintaining a master register of couta boats;

e)      to maintain and enforce couta boat regulations and vessel by-laws to protect the integrity of traditional Queenscliff-type couta boats as originally conceived;

f)        to promote safe and competent handling of vessels by members consistent with the principles of good seamanship;

g)      to act as an interface between state and national bodies (including VYC and AYF) and clubs and owners of couta boats;

h)      to purchase, lease and otherwise acquire land or premises necessary for the purposes of the Association; and

i)        to generally do or take part in any matters appropriate, conducive, ancillary or incidental to the attainment of the Association's objects or purposes.
